Description

HGM4000N series genset controllers integrate digitization, intelligentization and network technology which are used for genset automation and monitor control system of single unit to achieve automatic start/stop, data measurement, alarm protection and etc. functions. It fit with LCD display, optional languages interface (Chinese, English, Spanish, Russian, Turkish, French, Portugal, and Polish), and it is reliable and easy to use.HGM4000N series genset controllers adopt micro-processor technology with precision parameters measuring, fixed value adjustment, time setting and set value adjusting and etc. All parameters can be configured from front panel or through programmable interface (USB or RS485 interface) via PC. It can be widely used in all types of automatic genset control system with compact structure, advanced circuits, simple connections and high reliability.1 PERFORMANCE AND CHARACTERISTICSHGM4000N series controller has six types:HGM4010N/HGM4010NC/HGM4010CAN: ASM (Automatic Start Module),it controls generator to start/stop by remote signal;HGM4020N/HGM4020NC/HGM4020CAN: AMF (Auto Mains Failure), updates based on HGM4010N/HGM4010NC/HGM4010CAN, moreover, has mains electric quantity monitoring and mains/generator automatic transfer control function, especially for automatic system composed by generator and mains.Main features as follows:à 132x64 LCD with backlight, selectable language interface (Chinese, English, Spanish, Russian, Turkish, French, Portugal, and Polish), push-button operation.à Hard-screen acrylic material been used to protect screen with great wear-resisting and scratch-resisting functions.à Silicone panel and pushbuttons can be used in extreme temperature environment.à RS485 communication interface enable “Three remote functions” (remote control, remote measuring and remote communication) according to MODBUS protocol.à Equipped with CANBUS port and can communicate with J1939 genset. Not only can monitor frequently-used data (such as wa

I'm using the HGM4010N (USB Interface) to control a Sportsman GEN85KIDF inverter generator.Be careful when purchasing:The HGM4010N has USB interface for local programming control. The HGM4010NC has RS485 interface. The HGM4010CAN has CANbus interface.I bought the HGM4010N and interface my laptop via USB.Be prepared to invest time into learning the controller's functions and wiring connections in the user manual. In my experience, this unit does a great job of monitoring and controlling my generator.I had two issues (pertaining to my installation) that I resolved:The first issue is that the controller's user-configured temperature input will not accept negative values (below 0 degrees) nor will it accept resistance values above ~5K ohms. I resolved this by shunting a 4.7K ohm resistor across the temperature input which clamped input below 5K ohms. There is no way to input negative temperatures so the 'Open Circuit Action' must be set to 'Indication' otherwise the controller would lock out the generator from starting in very cold weather. I also set the 'High Temp (Shutdown)' alarm value at or below the highest user-configured temperature (150 degrees Celsius in my case) since the controller will ignore the shutdown alarm and continue to run unless the value was within the temp input range due to the controller sensing an out of range condition. The second issue is with scheduled runs. I wanted a scheduled weekly running of the generator. The controller won't do that when it is left in 'Stop' or 'Manual'. It will only do a scheduled run if the controller is in 'Auto'. That is probably fine for most people but I don't want the generator starting up on power loss if I'm not home. I resolved that by adding 7 day time clock to lock out (inhibit) starting except during the time of the scheduled run. Then during a power outage, I push a bypass button on the time clock which allows the generator to start. This is fine for me since I have a manual interlock (instead of a transfer switch) on the main breaker that I must throw anyway.I've included some screenshots of the controller's GUI interface for my installation...
